There are so many misconceptions about fostering - and they stop amazing people from coming forward.

❌ 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: You need to own your own home or have a spare room

✅ 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: You can foster if you rent - what matters is having a safe, stable environment.

HOME Fostering supports incredible people to access bigger houses with sufficient bedroom space to better enable siblings to stay together. We provide practical and financial support to help them start their fostering journey across Greater Manchester.

❌ 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: You have to be married or in a couple

✅ 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Single people can make incredible foster carers too

❌ 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: You must have parenting experience

✅ 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Full training and ongoing support are provided every step of the way

❌ 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: You can't work and foster

✅ 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Many foster carers do work - fostering can often fit around your lifestyle depending on the type of care you offer.

❌ 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: You can't foster if you have pets

✅ 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Having pets doesn’t stop you from fostering - in many cases, they can be a positive part of a child’s experience

❌ 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: You’re too old (or too young) to foster

✅ 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: It’s about your skills, commitment and ability to care - not your age
